Well, there hasn't been a lot of blogging from me for a while, and there won't be today, either... just some pictures with brief descriptions. I have been working on the office/guest room every day since May 29th. I'm sore, achy, and all of my joints are crackling - and my back is going out. God I feel old.
Sian's dad is arriving from Malta on the 12th. Ergo, I have 8 days to get the guest room done. Can I do it? Who knows. In the interest of continued marital bliss, I sure as hell hope so.
There used to be a counter and sink here; I guess I don't have a before photo.
I guess the plumber didn't like tight spaces. Luckily, there will be bookcases on every wall, so the hole will be covered up.
These are doors from the cabinet. It was apparently a kitchen at one time. Maybe?.
Can you tell that the roof leaked for a year or so?.
Here's a shot showing the beautiful wallpaper and original window trim.
Until 5/29/07, this was covered with a piece of plywood. It had been that way for about 30 years...or ever since the top sash leaped to its death when I was a wee tyke.
Yes, this window is narrower than original. In another picture I'll show you why.
The little debris pile outside that window.
Ceiling mostly removed, and I discovered that part of my roof used to be a sign. Only part still there/visible is "othing Store". I haven't been able to find anything about it yet. I'm assuming it was something like "Sweet Nothing Store", "xxxx's Clothing Store" or some such thing.
Here's the inside debris pile...
Ceiling almost all gone.
The arrow is pointing at the why of the narrower window. The original window went right into the door. No trim, no nothing. So I moved the window over a bit so that I can have symmetrical trim. What a concept!
The gen-u-ine ceiling fan ceiling box for my.... ceiling fan! lol.
Just a shot showing that there is lots of insulation installed now.
Look! I replaced the other window, too! It's the same size (sorta) as the original. Ergo, the outside trim stayed in place.
See?
That's about what... $60 worth of Romex? I really hope the price of copper goes down before I finish the house, and not after.
Another gratuitous insulation shot.
Electrical outlets are a novel concept for this room...
That will all be explained later. If you have any guesses, leave it as a comment.
A couple of bits of drywall.
Well, there's the end of the photo tour for today. I'll post more when there's some more progress.

I do not envy you one bit. That's a lot of work to be done before Sian's dad arrives, but I am sure you'll be able to finish it (or at least enough to have him over). Good luck!

Wow. Is that the same room you started with? Very impressive. I like the Pella windows and all of the R-19. You can never have too much insulation.
