I figured it would be a cold day in hell before I had all of the walls up in the laundry room. Well, I can say with confidence that all of the walls ARE up in the laundry room now. There still isn't a ceiling, but it would just be greedy to want EVERYthing, wouldn't it?
I built the other two boxes for the knick-knack cubbies over the laundry/kitchen door. The basement door is attached AND opens freely. It also supports my fat ass, so that's a nice bonus. I have part (a small, small part) of the baseboard installed. Just enough for me to attach the basement door, really. I'm making the baseboard myself, by the way. It's basic 1x6 white pine with a routed profile on the top 1 inch of the face. Here's a link to the router bit, in case you're curious of the profile. I have had terrific service from this eBay seller, by the way. They have great tools and "stuff" for great prices. Shipping can be a little high, but if you buy enough, it all works out. I'll post an actual cross-section picture of the baseboard later. For another illustration of what this seller offers, here are the bin pulls I've purchased for the kitchen and laundry room:
(Yes, the image is a link to the store inventory.)
As you can see, I paid $14 for 25. But I didn't. I also won an auction for 25 of those for $9.99. (Yes, I have 50 of them....) I also purchased router bits, cabinet ball latches, card catalog pulls, cordless circular saw blades, and other stuff. In the end, after the shipping was spread out a bit for the other purchases, I spent about $30 for 50 drawer pulls. The screws (which aren't included) are basic 8-32. A box of those was $4.00.
Anyway, enough about my miserliness....
I only have 6 pictures for you today. Sian has 3 or 4 that I will make let her post later. I know many of the female readers have been wanting a blog post from Sian, so I'll try to persuade her later. Depends on if I can get her off of the immigration forum she spends 14 hours per day reading/posting to.
Ok, here are the pictures...
Here's the little bit of baseboard that I've gotten installed.
Just showing that there are indeed walls everywhere in the laundry room now...
There's a 1.5" gap between the concrete and the wall on the kitchen side. Here was my "solution" for that...
Yeah...just look at the picture and nod politely. No, there's no real reason for it to be here; it's just another picture of that wall.
The 2x4 scrap is laying where a frame with nicely beveled edges will someday be. Until then, isn't that a pretty door handle? lol
Here are the little knick-knack cubbies over the doorway. You really can't see that the ceiling is sloped a bit and, ergo, that the panels above the cubbies are different sizes. That's just your imagination. But, as you can see, it's all trimmed out now.

They attach the normal way - it's just that you have to buy the screws yourself at the local hardware store. They're the normal 8-32 screws that most handles use. Length depends on your application. My drawer fronts in the current kitchen are just plain old plywood, so I drilled the holes through the front of the drawer for the handle screws/bosses stuck the bosses in the holes, then attached from inside the drawer with two 8-32 x 1/2" screws. It took about 1.5 minutes for each drawer. I'll post pics of them installed when I get a chance. Doing marathon remodeling at the moment....

From one fat-ass to another, everything looks great. I'm jealous and suffering from 'wall envy'. :) Keep up the good work and thanks for taking lots of pictures, I love looking at pictures. Can't wait to see what Sian posts!
