First, read the previous post about the laundry room Here if you haven't already.
Since it has been insanely warm lately (in the mid 70s), work resumed on the laundry room. I took a week off from work so I'd have time. Also, I just can't stand Foxconn any longer. I'm quitting in a day or two. I'm going to go back to work for Headley Hardware here in Greencastle. The pay is just a little bit less, but I won't have to spend $200/month for gas any longer AND I'll be getting a wicked discount on hardware. Plus, I can go home for lunch. More savings.
Back to the laundry room...
I started ripping out the ancient drywall (ie: from when Gypsum Board was first invented) and pulling down the ceiling. While ripping out the drywall, I discovered a very old door that was covered up. The following pictures are of the door.
Very cool door. Unfortunately, it was hacked at some point in its life.
Then I attacked the outside...
Look! A window!
Almost looks livable now... Almost.
Remember all of that nasty wiring that was wrapped around the plumbing? Look below and you'll see its fate.
Wiring-B-Gone
new wiring...
ditto.
ditto x 2
This thing almost looks like a timber-frame.
Nice, strong beam attachment there....yup.
Wazzat?
Bloody hell! An actual wood-peg splice on the beam. Groovy!
Since I had proper wiring now, I needed a porch light, eh? This lamp is from the 40s and was purchased off of eBay for $5.
I really like my $5 light...
When you can't think of anything else to do, tear down a wall....
And rip off an old door. (That's the storage room...it's supposed to be a mess like that...)
There's the door that was removed.
I haven't been able to remove this light switch yet....it's too cool.
I like it so much, here's another picture of it.
Look! TWO windows! w00t!
The window from the inside....
My truck ready to make its second trip to the dump. I hate getting rid of 150+ year old lumber, but it is COVERED with nasty black dust that frightens me. (and makes me cough, wheeze, and blow out black snot)
If you look closely, you can see the step I built...
OMG! Siding!!!!
More!
Almost looks like a house now, don't it?
Well, I'm exhausted, that's all of the updates, and I gotta go to work tomorrow. So, see y'all next time.

(I posted this in my blog but I'm bad - I just HAD to try posting it here to see if it made it past your filter! If it doesn't, no need to edit and post - it's just a test!)
::blink:::
::gigglesnort::
So, the "she said a dirty word*" filter took "perhaps some" and somehow decided that I was trying to sneak in the word "piss"?!? Oh hells bells, even my never-swearing Granny says piss! It's a good old fashioned country word - piss, piss, piss, piss, PISS! ::grin:: There, that felt better. Geesh, I was hoping that it was at least for something worthwhile, like "mounted"!!!
Can't. Stop. Giggling. hee.

Ok, it's fixed now. What a silly swear word filter it had.... I've replaced it with one I quickly hacked.

Trying again to see if I have it fixed now...
"Oh, yes, very cool switch! What I haven't yet started to research is how to make it safe. Right now it appears to be a switch that's right on top of wood... one bad short and whooosh! Then again, I haven't taken it off to see if there's perhaps some kind of ceramic backing to it... Those things are cool, though. And I asked around on old house web and talked to a few folks who had used them with new wiring, so it can definitely be done!"

Oh, yes, very cool switch! What I haven't yet started to research is how to make it safe. Right now it appears to be a switch that's right on top of wood... one bad short and whooosh! Then again, I haven't taken it off to see if there's perha**ome kind of ceramic backing to it... Those things are cool, though. And I asked around on old house web and talked to a few folks who had used them with new wiring, so it can definitely be done!

Don't know what's causing that... I've gotten emails of the comments, though.

Oh, yes, very cool switch! OK I give up on trying to say more because it keeps telling me that I'm swearing, and no matter how much I edit, it won't let me post. I'll reply to your post in my thread instead.

The door has been removed, and is currently in storage. Someone cut the top off of it....within 3/4" of the top glass panes. If I left it where it was, the wall would have bulged out there. Since I'm going to have a counter in there, that wouldn't be desirable. I plan on using the door somewhere in the house, though. It's too cool to be hidden away, in my opinion.
The original door trim is beaded on the edge, and was in reasonable shape. I propped it up in the door frame and will be sheathing the wall with the trim still in there. So, something is still there to let future remodelers know there was a cool old door there.

The house is really starting to look good!
Finding that door was cool? Are you removing it?
It'd almost be kinda nice just to cover it up o be discovered again in 100 yearss.
