December 3, 2006 :: It Ain't Just a Visit This Time...
Another update that will be short on chatter. The house is a wreck at the moment. I cleared everything out of the downstairs bedroom so that I could work in there. It is all currently in the living room. I have 5 days until Sian and Jordan arrive. As you know, this is THE arrival; not just a visit...this is the permanent, forever arrival. As such, my method of chucking stuff in bins and hiding it in various places really won't do this time. Well...there's always the basement....
As you might remember, the closet in the downstairs bedroom was in sad shape. It was also pretty much a doorway to the outside, since there was a 3" gap between the old house and the "addition", which is right behind the closet wall. This became a priority. I can't have Jordan getting sick because there's an arctic breeze blowing through his bedroom. Everything else had to be put off so I could get this done. As such, I'm not sure how much of the "crap" I'll actually be able to get rid of before they get here.
While the closet isn't "done", it
is sealed up and not cold now. There are no direct passages to the outside, although I'm sure there are roundabout routes, still. That will be addressed when it gets warm again and I fill the gap outside and add some trim where the houses meet.
So, here are some pictures of the closet. There isn't much else to report; I've been working on this for 3 days now. While it isn't exactly beautiful, I was more concerned with quantity than quality at the moment. The bedroom will be gutted before too long anyway, and this IS just a closet.... lol
Corner of the closet. Notice the inexpert use of 1/4 round and a little chunk of wood. lol
Yes, there's an electrical outlet in the closet.... Maybe Jordan will want to use this as his "Secret Hideaway"... I would, if it were my room. lol
A closeup of that beautiful block of wood. I didn't have time to figure out a better way to have 3 different pieces of 1/4 round meet in a corner.
The ceiling is NOT, in any way, straight. Also, another clumsy joining of 1/4 round.
This part isn't done. There will be a back on the shelf and a little door to the right of it for storing secret treasure.
Can you tell that I ran out of 1/4 round? Lumberyard is closed today, of course.
This is the wall that isn't done. I'm out of lumber, out of time, and out of money. That's the heat vent pipe to the upstairs running though the wall. Kinda nice without a wall there, actually....it heats the closet. lol
