October 22, 2006 :: Is It Cold In Here, Or Is It Just Me?

For the past few days, I'd been wondering why my bedroom (soon to become Jordan's bedroom) was much colder than the rest of the house. Then I remembered.....

Oh yeah! I started gutting this closet before Sian's first visit, didn't I?

Right. So, my source of cold air found (remembered), I've started addressing it. Money and time are in short supply, so I'm going to get this done as cheaply as I can. It's just a closet after all. lol. I've finished ripping out the plaster and lath from the outside walls. (This closet is on the Northwest corner of the old house, under the stairs) I'm going to leave the ceiling and just drywall over it. It's called cheating.... Gotta do it sometimes.

Anyway, I discovered that there's a nice big gap between the old house and the addition. Already knew that, but didn't know JUST how big of a gap it was....

Look! It's outside!

So, I started putting up insulation. Next I'll have to do something about that gap and then finish the insulation. Gotta do it today too, since I can't go to bed. All of the stuff from the closet is on my bed and the floor around my bed.

So, here are the rest of the pics of the closet:

Looks like claw marks doesn't it? It is. Sorta. There have been birds living in there. They've been served with an eviction notice.

Told you there was wallpaper on the back side of the wall in the (current) office...

Someones calculations are still legible on the wallpaper of the addition. Judging from the map from 1886 which shows this addition already existing, those scribbles are over 120 years old.

Looking through a hole in the ceiling at the bottom of the stairs. (Note the virgin lath from when the house was first built)

Insulation!

Taking a break from the plaster dust, I decided now was a good time to connect the new wiring in the bedroom. As a temporary measure, this means hooking it up to an unused part of the old fuse "box" in the closet. Once the new Siemens load center is connected, it'll be connected to that. Hence, the extra long wires.

Shoddy, but improved (temporary) wiring.

That's all for today. I've got Sian on MSN, so work will halt for a few hours. Reckon I'll be working late tonight so that I can get to me bed. lol!
