  October 17, 2006 :: Damn Batteries

As I might have mentioned a time or two, it's been rather cold here at Casa de Siân y Larry. That's the only reason I can think of for the battery in my shiny new nail gun being dead. Spent hours getting the wiring ready, cut the carsiding for the wainscot, got the first piece positioned and......nothing. Not a grunt, not a groan, not a transistor click. I didn't use it much last time, so the cold is the only thing I can think of. So, I did nothing from 10pm until 12:45am. The battery was charging.

A reader has offered to send me a quick-charger for the nail gun, and I'm anxiously awaiting it. Between Siân buying me the nail gun, this other blogger sending me a quick-charger, and Chris & Bri helping when they can, I'm feeling like a rich, rich man.

So, after the battery had charged for almost 3 hours, I went back upstairs and started in on the wainscot. I didn't have enough, of course. lol. I'll have to buy some more tomorrow. Erm...today. I had to fire up the jigsaw to cut the hole for the outlet box. At 1 a.m. Hope I didn't wake anyone up.

Now I have 1/3 of the wainscot done, the wiring (mostly) done, and enough lumber to finish that wall. I also have the lumber for the door jambs. That'll have to be for another day though. It's 2am, and I'm tired.

Before I get to the pictures, I wanted to share a house blog I found today. He has an old house and it seems so far that we have the same ideas about quite a few things. Plus he's a computer geek. So, if you get a chance, go visit 1870 House.

Okay, now for the pictures...

With the work light on, the flash doesn't work; sorry. This is after I had completed the wiring and put in the blocking for the wainscot.

I decided to add my name (and Siân's) to one of the studs for someone to puzzle over someday.

Here's where I ran out of car-siding.

Just a pic of the various boxes and wiring.

My nifty-neato laser level.

I couldn't decide how to wire everything for this wall. One line comes in, then goes to two light switches (4 eventually) and two outlets. So I just added another box and connected them all together in there. There's a separate power for each light switch in that box, one for the other two light switches down the wall a bit, and one for the electrical outlets. Since this will just be for bed-side items like alarm clocks, I wasn't too worried about overloading the circuit. The rest of the room has separate outlet and light circuits.
