October 9, 2006 :: I Have The Power!
To make up for flooding HouseBlogs.net with 3 updates Saturday, I took yesterday off. Not from the house, just from updating my blog. There has been some progress, but not the construction sort. Well, a little of that too, but the main accomplishment was in other areas.
First of all, I just wanted to mention how great my fiancée is. Not only is she gorgeous and witty, she's also kind and generous. Isn't that a Natalie Merchant song? Anyway, after listening to me grumble about not being able to afford a nail gun, she bought me one. Sorta. She sent me the money via PayPal to buy the cordless nailgun I'd been eyeballing on Wal-Mart's clearance aisle. Waiting the 9 hours for the battery to charge the first time was almost insufferable. lol.
My shiny, new, "on-sale" cordless nailgun.
In the end, I only shot one small brad through a cardboard box last night as a means of testing it. I had other things to tackle. My living room has been pretty much a labyrinth for the past month. I pulled everything out of the closet in there, and have been sorting it through it, throwing away what I've painfully decided is junk and giving away what I thought someone else could use. A few things have ended up on eBay.
Shirt Tales Plush animals
Camera Collection
Other things I've found include 2 new irons, a military medal from Saudi Arabia for service in Kuwait, and 4 new boxes of laundry detergent from the days before the ban on Phosphates.
Anyway, everything has been sorted and shoved back into the closet for the time being, until I get the attics done. I also installed my new Siemens Load Center. It isn't actually hooked up, but it's hanging on the wall. lol
Pretty, shiny, Siemens Load Center
That was yesterday. Today I continued work on the hallway and the bedroom. I'll just comment below each picture from now on.
Yes, evil hated drywall. Makes a bit more sense financially for the hallway.
I installed the rest of the wainscot on that portion of the bedroom wall. The remainder will be drywall (as you can see) for reasons that will be apparent later.
The current view (since the wall beside the door is gone) from the hall into the bedroom.
Well, there ya go. My stunning amount of progress since Saturday. LOL! If I didn't have to go to work tonight, I'd try to get that wall up beside the bedroom door. May try to do it anyway.
UPDATE: I did end up doing more work on the bedroom/hallway tonight. I got the narrow wall framed in and the wainscot installed. I also installed the last board of wainscot on the wall in the bedroom and put up the drywall in the remaining hole.
Sian was perplexed by all of this and wanted to know what the hell was going on with the drywall. I had to tell her. Since it was her I was going to surprise, there's no need to keep my plans secret any longer. lol
The parts that are drywalled in the bedroom are going to be closets; his and hers. Eventually I'd like to put cedar up over the drywall, but for now I reckon they'll just be plain drywall. Anyway, here are the few pics from tonight's work...
The "new" wall from the inside.
And from the outside...
The last bit on that half of the wall is now in place.
