  July 22, 2006 :: Attics and Musings

I'm afraid that there isn't much to update today. It's still grossly hot and humid, and this fat guy doesn't care for it at all.

However, I DID manage to get a few things done. I painted the window and door trim that I had primed yesterday. Since it was previously green, I'm thinking that it's going to need another coat. Damn.

I also put down part of the attic floor. No big excitement there, just 2 sheets of 3/4" plywood. I had to cut it in half to get it up there....not enough height to angle it in. So, there are four 4' x 4' sections up there now. No, they aren't attached...just sitting on top of the rafters. It's far too hot to crawl around up there today.

That's all I've done today, I'm afraid. I've been lurking near the computer most of the day. a) I've been waiting to see if Sian sends me an email. It's far too late in Malta for that now, and she called me earlier anyway. b) All of my sites are changing servers tonight, so I have to be around to change the IP address for the nameservers. Not very exciting, but it must be done if anyone is to find this site ever again.

Personal Stuff:
The funeral for Sian's Mum was today. I've felt sad all day that I couldn't be there with her; for her. She had her Dad and her son though, so I'm sure she has enough of a support network at the moment, and I AM only a phone call away.

I know her Dad will want to come here to visit after she's moved here, so the library/office is also going to be a guestroom. My dream is to build a 2 story garage in a few years. The bottom half would likely end up being a workshop rather than a garage. The top floor could be my office....maybe I could do some writing again....as well as a guest apartment. Sian and I will end up replacing a lot of the things in the house; things like the kitchen sink, 1940s stove, 1950s fridge, etc. Those things I just can't bear to part with. Ergo, they will likely end up in the guest apartment.

But of course, that's in the future. I do that a lot....plan for the future and neglect the present. On that note, I should get back upstairs and put up the one remaining sheet of plywood I have for the attic floor. Maybe after it cools down I'll actually nail it down, too.
