And the work on the once-arch still continues. Yes, I've been lazy, have been working slowly, and have been thoroughly baffled. My first attempt at building a door frame/jamb/thingie, and it just HAD to be double doors, didn't it? Both sides of the jamb are level on all planes, but the doors are crooked. They both slant down...the same way. Of course, they WERE $10 each, so it could be the doors themselves, I suppose. The level says that the doors are indeed level vertically, so I'm sticking with that story.
I added a light to the new alcove-like thing that replaced the arch. There will be a desk here at some point. The light was purchased on clearance at Menard's several months ago for $9. Here's a picture of the lights on at night.
And a picture of just the new light.
I'm really not very good at hanging doors, I've discovered. These took me 6 hours, including mortising in the hinges and everything.
Just a closeup of the door stop.
This is the passage lockset I bought. No, it isn't actually installed yet. I'm debating about buying the matching "dummy" handles for the other side.
Update: Now the doors are stained and the lockset installed. You can't really tell from the pictures, but the stain is minwax's red colour stain. I've been wanting to try it out for a long time, and I finally found a place that carries it.
Here's a view of the doors with the new wall. I haven't decided what to do with the wall. It's either going to be stained Puritan Pine like the beadboard in this room, or it will be painted green to match the bookcase and coat cubby.
