After many days of just messing around and cleaning on the house, I finally got some real work done today. I'm in a bit of a rush, you see, because my sweetie is coming from England in 43 days to visit for a while. While she appreciates old houses as well, and can see what they WILL be, I still don't want the place looking totally trashed when she shows up. As such, that archway HAD to go.
What I've been doing for the past few days was remotely house-related, but not really. I built an online library inventory system for cataloging my books. It adds them all to a database and can then spew out a list based on whether the book is fiction or non-fiction, if it's a western or a gardening book, or via an author search. I was really liking it. I've been adding books to it for the past 3 or 4 days, and had just gotten to 300 titles (about 10% of my library) when the database died. I don't mean a temporary burp....it's dead. So, all of my sites will be moving to a new server that doesn't use CPanel soon. I'm hoping they can recover the database, although I doubt what was added today will still be there.
So, when the database died, we started destroying the archway. We? Yeah....my friend Chris' girlfriend Brianna came by today because she was bored. When Brianna is here, it's almost guaranteed that a wall is going to be destroyed. I think it keeps her from using the hammer on Chris. I consider it a favour to him to let her destroy walls at my house. :p
So, here are the pictures from today:
Here's Brianna happily destroying some really bad plaster work.
And Brianna still merrily destroying the handywork of JoeBob the one-eyed, one-armed plaster guy.
Meanwhile, I ripped out the center, aiming all debris for Brianna's head, visible to the right in the picture.
Here's the skeleton of the arch. The wood is incredibly brittle. It comes off in small chunks, rather than as a single piece.
